Windows Azure pricingThis is the second part in a series on the Windows Azure cloud computing platform. Towards the bottom we look at the Windows Azure Pricing structure and how you can take advantage of their 90 day free trial. We will look at some case studies on companies that have been able to quickly build and deploy applications on Windows Azure platform. Whether you are looking SaaS or video distrubtion for training using cloud computing services may be the right solution for you.

Case Study 1 Helping first responders saves lives:

In the full case study you can find all the technical details but in summary here is what Windows Azure was able to do. An IT company was able to use Windows Azure cloud based computing platform to help develop and deploy “MOB Guardian” which stand for “Man Over Board” for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) of the United Kingdom to help them monitor and know the exact location of a man overboard. Because of the global scale and reach of Windows cloud platform two10 degrees was able to deploy the system to over 500 fishing vessels.

Reduced Capital Expenditures for Search and Rescue
Using Windows Azure, two10 degrees avoided a large investment in servers and hosting. The investment would have made it difficult for two10 degrees to provide a cost-effective service. Further, with Windows Azure, two10 degrees customers do not have to pay upfront licensing fees or purchase hardware. “Now, we can provide an affordable, life-saving service. The pay-as-you-go Windows Azure pricing model helps us eliminate barriers to entry for emergency services providers, who are often operating on limited budgets,” says Barnes. … read more at Windows Azure case studies.

Case Study 2 Cut costs and improve services in healthcare:

Healthcare systems and providers know that they have to get more efficient in delivering quality care if they are to survive in the new health care reform world. Being able to deliver care to patient in the office and hospital are traditional modes that are now being expanded to virtual spaces. In order to met QOC (Quality of Care) metrics providers are being incentivized on how well they manage their patients and not just simply seeing patients in their office. At STAT Health services they have deployed the services of Windows Azure cloud computing to help them launch and scale various applications that help them better serve their patients while providing better healthcare.

Benefits
By building Stat Doctors in the Windows Azure environment, Stat Health Services has saved money on service delivery and enabled its business customers and patients to save money on healthcare. The company has also improved system scalability and reliability, which have improved the quality of patient care.

Cost Savings
Moving to Windows Azure helped Stat Health avoid a US$170,000 initial investment in hardware and software, in addition to saving the company $3,000 per month in video conferencing fees. The company has also enabled significant healthcare savings for its business customers. One customer, Scottsdale Healthcare, calculated that Stat Doctors saved it nearly $115,000 in healthcare costs in 2011—its first year utilizing the service—and the savings continue to grow… read more at Windows Azure
